Free High Resolution Mac Webcam Software
Over on the Kitskam (my vancouver webcam) I’ve posted some free software that allows you to run a high resolution webcam. The application lets you connect a DSLR or digital camera (with ptp) to the web and upload photos at a given interval. It’s basically a web connected DSLR intervalometer that uses Amazon S3 for online storage.
Here are some screenshots:

(This is the application itself. It ain’t pretty but it works!)

(This is the preferences pane.)
So you end up being able to view near real time images like this view of Vancouver right now:

(this photo will update every 30 seconds. You’ll need to refresh the page to see a new image…)
Or you can make timelapses with it like this
I designed the software and Michael O wrote the application. You can get him to write you an app on elance if you want as well.
Download this free high resolution mac webcam software here.
My friend Sam made this awesome jetfighter flash game that allows you to control the game by leaning left and right (using your webcam). If you’re viewing this in your rss reader you may have to visit the site to actually see the game. Or just go here.
Here is Sam’s description of the game:
“Jetfighter J is a first person flying/shooting game in which your goal is to shoot down UFOs and collect records in order to save rock and roll. As you fly through a 3D randomly-generated fractal terrain, you have to dodge enemy missiles and avoid crashing into obstacles. What sets this game apart from the standard shooter though is the ability to use your webcam to control the jet. As one of the first Flash games to make use of your body motion as input, you can steer around hills and trees by moving your body in front of the camera. You can also play with mouse controls if you don’t have a webcam. The soundtrack is by Montreal bands The Delegates and Hollerado, and Jamie and the Boyfriends from New York.”
ScrapBlog.com looks like a fun piece of software. Too bad you can’t use it yet.
