That’s silly for you foreigners to judge Americans as a whole by a few of the top individuals in sports. If we all judged a country based on a few individuals then we could always find things wrong.

People do not go to basketball games to watch fights. If you want to see a brawl go watch UFC or boxing. This is not good especially when fights between the fans and the players occur. For British people I would’ve thought you people with having much higher class than that. Afterall your education is supposedly way much more advanced than America’s. Yet all you talk about is how you like watching fights and how fights are normal in sports. I really thought British people had more class. . . .

Lastly, kids watch these games. No one wants their kids to see fighting and violence of this sort. Kids look up to these fighters in more ways than one and they idolize them. If the kids see these players doing action such as this, the kids will think it’s all right to deck someone right in the face when they do something to you.

Speaking of which the way you all love fighting and brutality makes you all seem like barbarians instead of people with class. No wonder you couldn’t secure the United States from breaking away from Britian control with people like that over in Britian. You all may have been popluar 200-300 years ago but it’s all over. Get over it.

excuse me? This brawl had NOTHING to do with sports rivalry. It was a plain brawl, where one side takes pot shots at the other to bait them and in this case it worked. The fans are truly to blame for instigating it. Artest was a total fool as well. How in the world are you to say the American sports world (or even NBA players as a whole) are as hot-tempered as ONE SINGLE PLAYER?

i’m ashamed to be from michigan. this type of behavior has no place in professional basketball, and has little value in street ball. but when this sort of thing occurs, our fans need to react swiftly with great force. i didnt see nearly enough fans backing each other up, nor did i see enough retaliation when our spectators were attacked. im not necessarily wishing that more punches were exchanged, i just would’ve liked to see chokeholds and pins: it’s the punching that convinces juries to find in favor of the plaintiff, not submission holds.
as far as non-american sports are concerned, it looks to me like the roughest on-field action takes place at the aussie-rules football games. the roughest fan behavior is generally seen at various european soccer matches (south america too, though not as much).
the roughest fights these days are usually in falluja though.

Firstly… to all the Americans that think we British are Barbarians… we’re not. We’re just not mollycoddled into being naive citizens where thinking about doing anything against the norm will kill you. Also, us Brits, in tradition with our heritage of being the most powerful nation ever to have graced this planet, enjoy a good fcuking tussle with our fish and chips. A good scrap is good competition. I do not condone anything that these silly balerina-like sportsmen were doing. They should be ashamed of themselves, especially because they didn’t even manage to hurt anyone. Pathetic. If you’re gonna get banned for fighting, you might as well put someone in hospital for it.

You Aussies and British people can throw all the shots you want at America. But the major question is WHY are you in our business. Why don’t you go watch a soccer match or play cricket? The huge question is why are you in American news? I never ever hear anything about British sports or Aussie sports ever.

The point I am getting at is we could find so many points about your countries to make them bad and have you all quarantined as well. However, since the United States is popular nation in the world, America is put under the light about everything. Everything done in America is blown up way our of perspective. I’m not kidding, you have to actually FIND news about Britian here. In fact the very last thing I ever heard on the news about Britian that was actually on the news was Princess Diana’s death.

America’s news is very insular. The US looks mostly inward, not at what is happening around the rest of the world. It only needs foreigners to act as ‘the other’ – the source of fear that makes controlling American people a doddle for the govt.

All countries use foreigners as a source of fear(Britain v. much included) but perhaps people here are more aware they are being played. Why are we more aware? Because we see what happens in other countries and so have something to compare ourselves against.

b.t.w, All this violence stuff in Brit football: largely bollocks. Players are tough and they scrap. Most fans don’t fight. People who are into fighting organise fights with other teams and the public doesn’t get involved.

Yes, I agree with the comment below that George Bush is a jack ass. Now, on to the brawl. It is not only the fans fault but it’s the players fault as well. Artest, (or what ever that idiot player’s name is), has been suspended like 7 times. He’s an asshole. He should be kicked out for the year. His lawyer will claim that this punishment is excessive, it’s not. If it was the first time he had been suspended, maybe. But he’s been suspended more times than points that some guys score in a game. Everybody should shut up and hopefully hockey will be on again soon. Get fighting back where it belongs. On the ice. It would be nice if the league made him give the money he isn’t getting to the local school system. But if people cared about education, tickets to these turdly events would only be 25 dollars instead of a zillion. If you can’t pass a simple IQ test when you arrive at a sporting event, you shouldn’t be allowed to drink. Both your societies are largely governed by Anglo Saxon tenets, which is where your roots are.

Just two final points.

1/ The ‘War of Independence’ is a misnomer, it was a civil war,fought by British nationals, most of whom were proud to be British and didn’t want separation from the Mother country.
